Let’s eat together.
When we first met, Futaba-senpai was eating yakisoba bread.
In an empty corner of the rooftop, with her mouth full of bread.
When she noticed me coming in, she let out a huge gush of air.
Coughing and pounding her chest, she grabbed a plastic bottle of water.
I’m so upset.
I’ve seen… something bad.
Close the door softly.
“Wait. Wait. Wait. Don’t go.”
She exclaimed, her face turning bright red. Then she drank the water vigorously and sighed loudly.
“How did you get in here? I thought I locked the door.”
“It was empty, though.”
She rounded her eyes.
There was no lie in her words.
It was true that the rooftop was usually off-limits. But today, it was half open.
As she spoke, she put a hand to her face.
“I was careless.”
She blurted out as she closed the cap of the plastic bottle.
Apparently, this is her place. If the natives are here, there’s no room for me.
“I’ll take it from here.”
“I’m sorry to interrupt your lunch.”
I put my hand on the doorknob to close the door again.
I was about to leave, but she stopped me again.
She called out to me, not in a panicked way like before, but somewhat earnestly.
“You’re a loner, too.”
She looked at the lunch bag in my hand.
“… Let’s eat together.”
She said with a slight embarrassment.
That was the first time my senior and I met, and the first day we ate lunch together in high school.
