Ch 45 Picnic

It was a long-awaited holiday.

Today is the day that I had been planning for some time to go on a picnic with Ageha.

We had already confirmed our plans the day before, and the only thing we were worried about was the weather.

The best part of a picnic is eating outdoors.

If it rained, we would never be able to enjoy it.

I was surprised at how quickly I woke up.

The moment I opened my eyes, I sat up and stretched my arms out to the curtains hanging on the window without hesitation.

What I saw in my vision was a clear sky.

I arrived at the neighbourhood park where we were to meet, ten minutes before the meeting time.

I had planned to arrive earlier, but I was a little late because I was checking my belongings.

As I had expected, she was already at the park.

She was wearing a white one-piece dress with a floral pattern and a light pink cardigan.

Her hair, which is usually parted into twin-tails, was tied back in a single bun today.

It is the same hairstyle as on New Year’s Eve, but it gives a different impression than usual and makes me nervous.

As I gulped at her mature appearance, she noticed me too.

“Haru-kun!”

Holding the basket in her left hand, she waves her free right hand at me.

Even though she was in a mature mood, her smile was innocent as always.

I ran up to her with a smile on my face.

“Good morning. I like your spring dress.”

“I know, it’s my favourite onesie!”

She swooped and spun on the spot in a playful tone.

The hem of the dress was swept away and I hurriedly turned my face away.

“Let’s go then.”

I cut her off so that she doesn’t realize what I’m thinking before I walk away.

After a moment of wondering, she walks alongside him.

“Is that bento? It looks good.”

I ask as I point to the basket that Ageha is holding with great care.

A basket at a picnic is a bit too common, but that’s what makes it so exciting.

When I asked her about it, she laughed.

“That’s right, isn’t it okay? I borrowed it from my mother. Look forward to it for lunch!”

I don’t need to be told, I’m looking forward to it.

It’s a beautiful day. It would be nice just to eat outside, especially if it was homemade by Ageha.

Today, I headed not to the station but to the bus stop.

On the way there, the handle of the tote bag on my right shoulder slipped and I had to re-hang it.

“I’m sorry you had to bring all that stuff. It’s heavy, isn’t it?”

“I’m totally fine. It’s been a man’s job since ancient times.”

“Even if Haru-kun, who doesn’t have much power, says that, it won’t be persuasive.”

“How rude.”

In the tote bag was a leisure sheet.

We talked about which one of us was going to bring it, so I decided to be the boyfriend and bring it.

We arrived at the bus stop while talking about how glad we were that the weather was fine and how we were a little sleep-deprived.

After a 30-minute bus ride, it was just before noon when we finally arrived at our destination.

The picnic spot we chose was a field at the foot of a famous local mountain.

Nearby there is a path paved with flowerbeds, a pond with carp, and a small watering hole.

I got off at the bus stop and walked a little further.

Looking around, I saw a family with children and an elderly couple.

“We used to come here once before.”

Ageha reminisced.

“Yeah. Ageha and the others suddenly appeared when I was at home and said let’s go to the mountains.”

I was in the first grade of elementary school.

I was home alone when the Aizawa family appeared in front of me as usual.

I was taken out and played around with them as usual, and the memories passed through my mind.

At the time, I had no idea that I would end up visiting there on a date with Ageha.

We proceeded down a slightly sloping road and arrived at the foot of the mountain.

After passing through a road lined with parking lots and souvenir shops, I saw a vast lawn at the back of my field of vision.

“Wow, beautiful!”

Looking at the flowers planted around, Ageha’s voice bounces.

I took a step back and stared at Ageha, who was crouching down and peering into the flower bed.

“…? Haru-kun, can you see it from there?”

At my actions, Ageha raised her eyebrows suspiciously and asked.

From my position, I can’t see the flower beds because they are blocked by Ageha.

I guess she was concerned about that.

I’m sorry to say this, but I wasn’t really interested in the flower beds at the moment.

“It’s okay, I can see it.”

It was a little embarrassing to say the reason to her face, so I smiled to deceive her.

While leisurely strolling around the area, before I knew it, it was past noon.

Finding a nice shady spot, I took out the leisure sheet I had put in my tote bag.

As I lay it out on the grass and sit down, I let out an involuntary sigh.

A slightly cool breeze and warm sunlight.

The sound of swaying trees and children playing in the distance soothes my soul.

“Mmm, don’t sleep, okay?”

When I lay down for a while, Ageha said while puffing out her cheeks.

However, her voice was softer than usual.

“I know, I know.”

When I woke up slowly, Ageha put the basket in hand between me and her.

“Yes.”

“Thank you.”

I received the wet tissue handed to me and wiped my hands.

While doing so, Ageha smiled embarrassedly as she peered into the basket.

“It’s a little embarrassing to be seen like that.”

“I’ve been looking forward to it since we promised to go on a picnic, so I want you to see it more often.”

When I replied, she opened the basket, spilling out, “It’s really not that big of a deal…”

“Oh! It looks delicious!!”

The basket was filled with sandwiches.

My tension rose, and I unintentionally raised my voice.

“After all, when you think of a picnic, you think of sandwiches. Let’s eat?”

“Then I’ll take your word for it. Bon appétit.”

Out of all the options, I picked the egg sandwich first.

When you bite into the tip, you can immediately feel the texture of the chewy bread, and then the sweetness of the roughly crushed egg spreads out.

“Yeah, it’s good.”

“That’s Good.”

After stroking her chest in relief, Ageha also brought the sandwich to her mouth.

While looking at her profile, I also stuffed myself with a sandwich.
