L.G. Ch.13

I came to get something important.

The girl who appeared unexpectedly began to assemble iron pipes silently in a corner of the rooftop. I’m not sure if she noticed me and Futaba looking at her, but she said in a strangely broken tone.

“Don’t worry about me.”

“Even if you say so…”

“Just keep flirting.”

“…No, I’m not doing that.”

Futaba-senpai said in a troubled tone. The female student in white said nothing and returned to her assembly work.

“She’s got a bad vibe, you know?”

“It’s…”

“Go ask her what she’s doing.”

“No, Futaba-senpai, she’s a… girl.”

“I’m not very good at talking to people.”

“Me neither.”

“Then let’s decide with rock, paper, scissors…”

“Pon.”

I won.

Futaba-senpai seemed to have no choice but to call out to her as she was assembling the pipes.

“What are you doing?”

“Antenna Installation.”

She is silently assembling the iron pipe. If you put an umbrella over there, it would look like an antenna.

“Are you going to set up a TV?”

“It’s more than that.”

“What’s it for?”

“To observe the electromagnetic waves emitted by the star.”

“Configuration?” (Tl: Star and configuration both sound the same in japanese so this is why she is confused.)

“Star.”

She stuck the cord into the antenna and carefully pulled in an extension cord to the power source.

“Excuse my step.”

The girl was working quickly and efficiently. It was clear that she was trying to do something strange.

“A star.”

Futaba-senpai, who had come back, said while tilting her head.

“Star.”

“…We don’t know anything after all.”

“She didn’t have to do it on the roof.”

Futaba-senpai let out a complaint.

In a place like this, we’re eating our lunches, but I’m not sure what to say.

“This is the place where star electromagnetic waves have the greatest impact.”

The female student replied in a troublesome tone, as if she had been listening to our conversation.

“I’ve calculated that the area near this school building is the most susceptible to electromagnetic radiation in the city, given its angle and location.”

“Huh… The point is, it’s just right here.”

“That’s it.”

“That’s a lot of action.”

Futaba-senpai said with some admiration.

“Are you in some kind of club by any chance?”

“Yes. The Occult Science Society. I’m the head. Three years and four classes. Harufu Rima”

“I didn’t know our school had an occult society.”

“Illegal. What about you?”

She pointed at us.

“I’m Kaneshiro. This is Futaba-senpai.”

“First year?”

“No, second and third years.”

“I don’t know you.”

She shook her head.

We are both outcasts, so our faces are not known. It’s sad.

We sat for a while, eating our food and watching Harufu-san finish setting up.

“I wonder what they do by stargazing?”

“I don’t know… What does the occult club do in the first place? Like aliens?”

Harufu-san shook her head at my words.

“It’s not occult. It’s Occult science.”

She said, unfolding her laptop.

“Get the right data. Observe. Prove it. Reproduce. Experimentalism.”

“So what are you doing now?”

“I’m observing the electromagnetic waves and studying their effects on the surrounding environment.”

“… Oh.”

Futaba-senpai looked up at the sky and frowned.

“Star… hey”

“Even at midday, there are stars. You just can’t see them.”

“Hmm.”

“By the way.”

Harufu-san turned around to look at us. The eyes behind her bangs shone brightly.

“How did you two get on this roof?”

“We have a duplicate key…”

“I want it.”

“What?”

“I want it.”

She said, holding her hand out straight.

“I want the key.”
